Ceremonial MasksThe Native cosmology was expressed through
Ceremonial Spirit Masks of the 19th century. Shaman and Dancers used them to act out LIFE and DEATH EVENTS: Tradition, History, Hunting, Comedy, Religious Experience, Medicine, Healing... Masks of the 19th century exhibited the widest imaginative vistas of native art which reached its highest degree of artistic achievement.. After 1900, masks were disappeariing as a living force in the daily native cultures. David Hendren has carvered replicas of many of the Spirit Mask of the19th century. The original masks displayed in museums and private collections around the world are captured through in the carvings of David Hendren. |
