COTTONWOOD BARK CARVINGS
David L. Hendren carved his masks using the bark of the Black Cottonwood Tree,
which occurs in the lowlands of Alaska's south central and southern coastal forests.
The bark comes from trees that have been dead for five to six years.
It is then possible to remove the bark that may be up to 6 inches thick.
We had supplied many of Alaska's Finest Gift Shops for fifty years...
along with several Retail Shows in Anchorage and Fairbanks
60s... Early 70s
We worked and sold to tourist and locals, out of our home in Anchor Point, Alaska.
We also supplied gift shops from Juneau to Fairbanks.
Retail shows took us to Anchorage
Spring of 1984
we opened our own gift shop on the Sterling Highway,
"Billikin Shop at Rainbow's End" between Anchor Point - Homer Alaska
Many visitors will remember "Our Singing Four-Some"… four little peek-a-poo-poms.
Fall of 2000
we closed our shop but continued with a few Retail Shows in Anchorage and Fairbanks
which included AFN, Alaska Federation of Natives Arts and Crafts Show...
Anchorage Alaska Wholesale Show
helped us display our carvings, ulus. and other antler work
for the many owners and managers of Alaska's Gift Shops.
We enjoyed working with them through the years.
January 2015
"Anchorage-Alaskan Wholesale Show" was dropped from our schedule.
But we continue to work with our many Fine Alaska Gift Shops.
Summer of 2017
We did our last wholesale order for the Alaskan Gift Shops...
It went to Bears Lair, Juneau Alaska...
And... Yes, We are now RETIRED...
Thanks to the many people who though the years,
visited our Anchor Pt - Homer Gift Shop, Billikin Gift Shop at Rainbow's End
or checked in on our website, www.AlaskanMasks.com
or stopped at our Wholesale Booth at the Anchorage Alaska Wholesale Show,
or visited our Retail Booths at Make It Alaskan Show,
Charlette Jensen Native Art Show at Dimond Mall,
and Federation of Natives Arts and Crafts Show, Anchorage and Fairbanks
Thank You! Thank You!

and nothing is the same
Leaving their paw prints on our hearts
That will always remain."
